Create ShutDown, LogOff, Restart Shortcuts

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

In Windows you can always Shutdown, Restart and Logoff(in Xp). In case you are user in a company and you are not authorized to Restart or Shutdown the computer, then with some simple Permissions(if available), you can create your own shortcut icons for these. Lets see then one by one.

1. For Shutdown :- “c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00“, assuming that c is your drive in which your OS is installed.
2. For Restart :- “c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe -r -f -t 00“.
3. For Log Off :- “C:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe -l -f -t 00“.

If you are a programmer, you might be interested behind the code and the parameters used. Let me Explain these.
Above the command used the same but the parameters given makes all the difference, and see only changing one of them, makes all the difference.
Lets see the first Parameter -s : which stands for Shut Down. Similarly -r stand for Restart and -l stand for Log Off.
Apart from that -f stands for forcefully shutdown all the Programs without even saving it and -t 00 stands for time, performing the specific command in Zero seconds. You can change the value for time.

Now these were the commands which you can use and create if you are in a kind of policy in which these icons don’t show up in main menu. These might not work if you are assigned the policy of Disabled Shutdown, or Restart, there are many policies which can we can break through, but some can’t be, But whatever you have got, try to make the best out of it.
